Musical Manners

Questo progetto ha come scopo la creazione di oggetti che si mostrino a tavola con un comportamento eccentrico, in violazione proprio delle buone maniere. Il servizio da tavola è stato creato in modo da funzionare anche come strumento. Ogni piatto raffigura una o più note ed è rialzato per aumentare la qualità del suono. Ogni coperto è costituito da un piatto piano, un piatto da pane, un piatto fondo, un’insalatiera, un bicchiere da vino e uno da acqua, una forchetta, un coltello e un cucchiaio. A ogni commensale vengono dati 6 strumenti e 3 bacchette per suonarli. Ogni piatto di ceramica e ogni bicchiere può rappresentare più di una nota musicale perché battendo su spessori diversi del piatto o riempiendo con differenti quantità il bicchiere si può ottenere un suono diverso. I suoni e le armonie vengono ottenuti attraverso l’interazione con gli altri commensali che migliora l’esperienza dello “stare a tavola”. In molti contesti, la società deride i cosiddetti comportamenti tabù. Al contrario, i “Musical manners” creano un ambiente in cui questi comportamenti sono celebrati. Viene riconsiderato dunque il concetto stesso di “maniera”. Mangiare e giocare diventano una cosa sola.

This project is thought to create objects that expose eccentric behavior at the dinner table, violating good manners. Objects normally used for polite eating will be altered to suggest usage that is impolite. Some sets of tableware have been created that also function as instruments. Graphics were applied to each dish indicating notes and dishes were elevated to enhance sound quality. Each place setting consists of a dinner plate, bread plate, soup bowl, salad bowl, wine glass, water glass, fork, knife and spoon, giving each diner six instrument and 3 drumsticks. Each ceramic plate and glass can have upwards of one musical note as varying widths of ceramic alter tones and different amounts of liquid in each glass change the sound. Songs and harmonies are achieved through interaction with other diners, which enhances the dining experience. Although this project creates eccentric behavior at the dinner table, it encourages human interaction. In most scenarios, societies scoff at taboo behaviors. However, ‘Musical Manners’ creates an environment where poor manners are celebrated. Manners themselves are reconsidered. Eating and play become one.

Tutti gli oggetti hanno delle vie di accesso alla loro stessa espressione. Se ne riconosciamo l’espressione, comprendiamo che si tratta di un’esistenza con un suo significato intrinseco. Il punto di partenza è che l’età della pianta è contenuta come un segreto all’interno del suo corpo. Tuttavia questo segreto può essere svelato tagliando la pianta e contandone i cerchi all’interno del fusto. Questo vaso di fiori ha una forma della base astratta e un calendario digitale integrato. Attraverso l’aiuto di questi anelli digitali possiamo sapere quando annaffiarla, concimarla, etc.. Il vaso è costituito da due parti: da una parte si mette la terra e la pianta, l’altra è un display che ne mostra l’età attraverso 3 led colorati che rappresentano i giorni, i mesi e gli anni. L’anello digitale si alimenta per energia solare e quindi può contenere sufficiente energia per funzionare anche di notte o nei giorni nuvolosi.
Lo scopo è di dare più vitalità alle piante, in modo che possano essere cresciute e allevate come un cucciolo o un bambino seguendone la crescita giorno dopo giorno. Per questo motivo, accade facilmente che vengano malcurate. Questo vaso è stato progettato per aiutare la pianta dall’interno, mostrandola come un’entità molto più vivente.
While we are trying to understand the things for their needs and expectations we cached an idea of ‘Plants could communicate with people by the objects we designed for them’. To take care of them more easy way we designed an interaction by visual and emotional feelings. To begin with, plant’s ages are a secret in their body. We could cut and count the circles in their body to know so we asked ‘How could we know the age of plants without damaging them?’. The flowerpot which we designed is different by its shape and function from the common flowerpots.
This flowerpot has an abstract form of a root and an integrated digital calendar… These things awake more feelings about plants. A plant inside the flowerpot we designed could have more characteristic then the others because it will have a birthday and people could follow its existence in life cycle more By the help of this digital annual ring we could know the time when we should give water, nutriment and so on. The flowerpot is made up of two parts which are a part that you could put soil with the plant. The other one is a display to know the age by the help of 3 colored led lights which will symbolize the days, months and years. This digital annual ring will get solar energy from the sun so it could save the energy to use it even night time and overcast days.
